The National Yang-Ming University (NYMU) in Taipei, Taiwan, was established in 1975. It used to be a medical college dedicated to improving the quality of medical practices in rural areas in Taiwan. In 1994, it was approved by the Ministry of Education to expand to a medicine-oriented comprehensive university.
Besides, M.D. and dental degrees, NYMU has 9 undergraduate programs, 32 Master and 31 PhD programs. In addition, NYMU has 23 research centers with emphases on oncology, infectious diseases and neuroscience. Recently, a biophotonic center was established with strong commitment towards the development of optical methods for medical needs on the micro and nanoscale.
