Regarding the current coronavirus (2019-nCoV) epidemic January 25th, 2020

Dear students and colleagues,

As you probably have already known, there is currently an epidemic of the novel coronavirus-related pneumonia. Currently, there are three confirmed cases from Wuhan, China in Taiwan, all of which are under control. The government is enforcing border control measures to prevent more imported cases from happening.

There is currently no vaccine to prevent 2019-nCoV infection. The best way to avoid infection is to avoid being exposed to the virus. Therefore, we would like to suggest you to adopt preventive measures, including but not limited to: frequently washing hands with soap and water, refraining yourself from touching eyes/nose/ mouth with unwashed hands, wearing a mask when going to public places, and covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze.

In case you have fever or influenza-like symptoms, please do not hesitate to go to a nearby hospital and inform the healthcare professionals your travel and exposure history. Please remember to wear a mask on your way to the hospital. After medical visits, please stay at home during the time you are unwell.

If you are in Taiwan and need more information, please call the toll-free number 1922 (or 0800-001-922), the Taiwan CDC hotline.

We need every one of you to help build up the chain of defense against this epidemic. We will post on the OIA website and Facebook if we receive any update. If you need more information regarding the epidemic, please do not hesitate to contact us.

We wish you a healthy and Happy Chinese New Year.
